Teenage Bodybuilding Tips - Choosing The Right Supplements

Most teenagers, provided they eat a proper diet, have been proven not to need any supplements for bodybuilding. That's right - all that may be needed for most teens to build muscle is a diet rich in protein, but nonetheless balanced.

However, if preparing appropriate meals doesn't fit into a busy schedule, there are safe alternatives that most people can turn to. Have your teenager see his or her doctor or physician before using any form of bodybuilding supplements.

Meal replacements, usually found in shake form, are usually considered as the best supplements for teens to take for their bodybuilding needs. Meal replacement are rich in proteins, carbs and healthy fats that could help teenagers improve their chances of muscle growth while staying healthy.

The replacement powders are usually mixed with water, milk or juice and taken two to four times a day, depending on your dietary needs. Your teen may be a junk food junkie or spend most of his or her time after school eating fast food, but for just $2 or $3 you can help them build their bodies with this budget-friendly alternative.

Protein shakes, which often come in powder form, are slightly costlier, though faster way to build mass and muscle. The sugar content of protein bars is a little on the high side, so exercise discretion when using these as alternative supplements.

Protein shakes that are pre-prepared are usually more expensive than the powdered form. For even more protein content, and an added dose of calcium for stronger bones, you can mix protein shake powders with low-fat or skim milk, though they can simply be mixed with plain water and still be quite useful. It helps to research, so try sneaking in some of that in between homework if you wish to choose the best shake among all the different varieties and flavors.

Sometimes body building may come with weight loss as a goal, so why not have your teen go lite - with lite meal replacement powders, that is. While they have less carbs and protein than normal meal replacements, these are an excellent choice for those teens who have a significant weight loss goal in mind as they try to lose fat and build muscle.

There are bodybuilding supplements that can go against a teen's natural hormone production - stay away from these. You wouldn't want your teen suffering from the negative effects of overly enhanced hormone production, right?

You may notice your teen increasingly self-conscious about how he or she looks, and this is natural, especially for boys who wish to build their confidence by beefing up. Still, no supplements should be taken that might put their health at risk.

Over the counter supplements are usually safe, same with organic supplements that specialize in replenishing protein and mineral content. However, be wary about prescription levels when buying over the counter.
