Free Weights Or Machine Exercise?



Something you need to keep in mind and never forget is that when you exercise, you are training for life. Sure, you hit the gym for an hour a day, but that also means your muscles are constantly working the rest of the day.

The movement involved in any kind of exercise is called the range of motion. An exercise is more effective if it involves a more complex range of motion, because it needs your body to work harder.

The classic dumbbell bicep curl, for instance. This exercise involves standing straight with a dumbbell in each hand, and with the palms facing front. You'll contract your biceps to bring the dumbbells up to your shoulder height, then repeat the exercise as many times as you wish.

You can do the same thing on a bicep curl machine, except you're sitting down and gripping handles.

As you can observe, only your biceps are working when you use the bicep curl machine. Your shoulders don't do much when you're on the machine because you're in a sitting position. The machine has several muscles used in this exercise limited to the biceps, as well as the muscles in your forearms and fingers.

When you exercise using machine weights, there is usually a limit to what you can do. Both machines and free weights require you to follow a certain procedure. The difference is that there is resistance when you go with machine weights.

One of the best things about free weights is the fact that you move a little chuck around to select the weight you want to use. Instead of dragging it over to your exercise area, you simply select it on the machine. This is something you'll be happy for when you get tired during a workout session.

Plenty of people argue that the body will benefit best from free weights. While this is normally true, many people out there feel that machine weights are the best. There are good and bad sides of both, but arguably, free weights have been around longer and are proven to give great results.

For example, body builders mostly use free weight to build their muscles. They might not think that you're serious if you ask about training with machine weights.

You get a better workout with free weights than machine weights since the former involves more muscles when you workout. Machine weights aren't bad though. Machine weights are actually ideal if you want to stabilize muscles.

The decision on which to use for you should be based on what you hope to achieve with lifting weights and where you plan to use the equipment, such as home or at a gym. Both systems are great for your body, although the free weights are best to use if you want the best possible workout, and always ensure that your muscles are getting the right workouts they need.
