Staying focused on your diet and weight loss goals during the holidays is something many people struggle with. This because from Halloween until New Year's, food is everywhere. It starts with the Halloween candy, peaks with Thanksgiving dinner and then comes to a resounding finish with Christmas dinner (if you celebrate Christmas) and a nice encore of hors d'oeuvres at New Year's Eve parties. There's just no escaping it! What can you do to start off the new year without carrying around ten (or maybe even more) extra pounds? Believe it or not, it's possible to lose weight or at least not gain any over the holidays; below are some ways to accomplish this.
If you want to avoid overeating at a holiday party, make sure you've had something to eat before you get there. Don't go overboard, just have a snack containing lean protein or vegetables before going to the party. You're not trying to fill yourself up, so don't eat a huge meal. You're only trying to put a lid on your appetite so you don't feel like eating everything in sight at the party. You can then nibble on various treats without overdoing it. Staying in shape is part of my way of life as an ultrasound technician, so I make sure to remain on the right path even during celebrations. A holiday meal is often an excuse for people to eat until they can't fit another morsel in their stomachs. Sweatpants are popular this time of year, as they can allow us to forget about how our waistlines are expanding. Rather than do this, try doing the opposite -wear clothing that's tight. A belt that restricts you is very useful in this regard. If you start gaining weight, the belt will become even tighter, which will be a warning sign to take it easy. This is why this tip works best in social situations that happen outside of your own home. It's a fantastic idea to control my appetite during this type of celebration instead of wasting my ultrasound salary on slimming capsules because of eating too much.
Cook with healthy ingredients. It isn't just that people overeat during the holidays, but the foods they eat are full of things that should be avoided, such as fatty foods, lots of sugar and butter. There is no rule that says holiday food needs to be thick and rich and heavy. Good tasting food can still be prepared, even in the same dishes you are used to, only by using healthier foods. If you do some research on healthy foods, certainly you can come up with some tasty foods to replace the foods you should be avoiding, and the holidays will become enjoyable. Taking your diet to a higher level is pretty fulfilling especially if you look better than what you predicted. We've looked at just a few of the ways you can maintain your weight loss plans during the holidays. If anyone says that you should just resign yourself to gaining weight during the holidays, don't pay any attention to them. If you exercise just a little self control during the holidays, then you can focus on making even more strides next year rather than having to do damage control.
