Choosing The Fitness Regimen That Works

Everybody knows that it is important to be fit. Your level of fitness would predicate how long (or how short) you are expected to live, so it would behoove you to get in shape. Nowadays, everybody and their cousin, denizens of Tinseltown and those who have reached the pinnacle of athletic glory are all hawking their own fitness books, videos and equipment (often with dubious credentials), and countless articles are being written in different mediums about how having a daily workout is necessary for your health, how a lack of physical fitness could lead to ostracization and why nobody would look sexy in a XXXL suit or dress - as if it wasn't already obvious. Getting into proper shape should be on everybody's bucket list, 24-7-365 - that's right, all 365 (or 366) days of the year, every waking hour, and not just consigned to the list of New Year's resolutions converted into hot air by the second week of January.

So many people start their own fitness regimen only to watch their zeal fade away quickly. With a busy work schedule, and an equally busy social life, it's a common enough occurrence that people drop out of exercising on the basis that they don't have enough time. However, many of the fitness world's cognoscenti think that the above reasons are the oldest excuses in the book, because to them, it's so easy to wake up about an hour or so earlier and use that extra hour to exercise. However noble their intentions may be in suggesting such a workaround, the above suggestion may not be as enthusiastically received by the nocturnal people of the world - for many of us, waking up early is anathema, so to go around this, it is suggested that those who are more active in the evening sign up for late sessions at the gym, or buy a treadmill or some other form of exercise equipment that can be used while watching those late night sitcoms and sports events.

Some people believe that everybody loves dancing, therefore "dancercise", that portmanteau of dance and exercise, would be the best fitness regimen. Negative on that, partner - there are those among us with two left feet, and there are always alternatives when it comes to staying fit, including, but not limited to martial arts. It is not important how you get fit: only the results matter. For example, if your idea of a fitness regimen is weekend basketball with the boys from work, then so be it - whatever works for you. You can't expect to last long doing something you don't like to do, or something that makes you feel ridiculous.

You can also maintain your enthusiasm in other ways, such as tallying how well you have done thus far, or by creating a mixtape of your favorite songs to work out to. Your fitness regimen can also be furthered if you invite a friend over and try to outdo that person, or you can set flexible goals - again, whatever works for you.

We should all prioritise achieving a state of fitness, not just on special days of the year, but everyday, and if you don't have a daily exercise routine yet, start having one NOW. Even if your exercising consists of a short run everyday, and you never end up with a full six-pack, that does not matter. Fitness is not to be confused with achieving the physique of a Greek God or Goddess, but rather feeling physically and mentally healthy all over, not to mention more energetic, sprightly and self-assured in your everyday life.
