Women Can Lose Weight With The Help Of Weight Training

As age creeps in, so does lethargy, and for women (and men as well), that means more weight gain - however, that does not always have to be the case. You should start to weave some sort of exercise into your daily life.

You may refer to it as weight training, strength training or resistance training, but this is definitely one exercise you must consider. Weight training will not only help with losing weight but will also trim and tone your body. Even if you are a senior citizen, weight training could work for you, as some 70-year-old women have gone on these training programmes and improved their strength and overall health while losing the excess flab.

We tend to agree with the general consensus that weight training is the most important part of staying trim. If you do aerobic exercise you only burn fat during the exercise but with weight training you burn fat even when you have finished. Consider that your body will keep on burning fat for up to half a day after finishing your exercise routine, and all the while your body is toning up the muscles that were exercised, so in effect, you burn fat even in a state of inertia. However, there is more to this than meets the eye, so read on.

You may need to eat more than you usually do if you have a muscular and well-toned body, as it would use up more calories than a predominantly fat body - remember you want to maintain your muscle and keep your weight at a healthy level. You do not need to worry that you will bulk up like a body builder, as you do not have the right makeup to do this, as a woman you will only elongate and define your muscles, and build lean muscles.

Weight training may look deceptive at first, because if you look at the scales alone, you may notice your weight increasing. This is not a dodgy occurrence by any means, because muscle may be heavier than fat, but it is also smaller in terms of volume, which means that even if your weight may be increasing slightly, your body would also be decreasing in volume.

Consider the following additional benefits of weight training for women:

With your muscles continually in motion, it helps build up your bone fibre due to the constant and consistent motions, as your bones gradually become stronger and more durable.

Stronger muscles helps your body to be more steady and so helps to prevent falls.

It has also been found that it can fight the build up of abdominal fat by lifting weights at least twice a week.

Last, but not the least, you would want to switch your routine every few weeks or so, to prevent your body from getting too acclimated to the previous regimen. Based on studies, the human body takes only about six weeks to familiarise itself to any given exercise routine, and when that does happen, such routine loses its pith and efficacy.

Most of all, have fun while weight training and you will be losing weight and toning your muscles in due time.
