Fact and Fiction - Health and Fitness



It is usually a good idea to ignore the idiots at the gym who think they know what they are talking about. While you can get some great workout tips, you can also pick-up information that may be inaccurate or false. We doubt that people purposely disseminate false information at the gym. This is not unlike other situations where the talker might not know as much as you think they do. Perhaps the best thing for anyone is to be very sure they only take in information from a known and totally credible source. You'll get the best information possible with the tips that follow.

Here is an interesting partial myth, if we can say so. When you engage in aerobic exercise, your metabolism will get a terrific boost that will last for hours, maybe, beyond the actual workout. You will not burn the calories after the workout that you would expect with this type of metabolic change. This is because the increase in metabolic rate is not as high as some might claim. The rate of increase is not significant, therefore the calorie burn is also not significant.

Over extension is another mythical being that goes something like this, if you aren't feeling the burn you aren't doing enough. This can take a day or two for you to really notice the effects of a hard workout. When you decide to get in shape and hit the gym hard your first time out after a length of inactivity is when you will feel this the most.

Then if you can, thirty minutes on the weekend which is better than nothing. Take your kids for a walk, use your work breaks to snag a little more time. You can go for a brisk walk during your lunch hour or break. You can take ten minutes and jump a rope, and you can do that in your apartment or house. Everyone has ten minutes, three times a week.

These myths occur in every aspect of fitness. You'll find them related to specific types of exercise as well as in general statements. No matter what, though, do some quality reading and research and give serious thought to what you are doing.
