More Facts About Aerobic Activity

"With oxygen" is what the term aerobic means. During an aerobic activity , the cardiovascular system, which includes the heart, lungs and blood vessels, responds to physical activity by increasing the oxygen that is available to the body's working muscles. An exercise routine that uses large muscle groups that is maintained for long periods and is rhythmic in nature is involved in aerobic exercise. Improving your fitness as your heart becomes stronger and begins to work better is a regular aerobic activity. The heart being able to pump more blood with each heartbeat is the result, thus the oxygen delivery to the tissues will increase. As your aerobic fitness increases, you can work out longer with greater intensity and recover quicker at the end of the session. Often coined as either High Impact or Low Impact is aerobic activity. Actions that take both feet off the floor is included in High Impact aerobic activity and this can cause more jarring of the joints when the body weight hit the floor again. Walking is an example of Low Impact while jogging or jumping up and down is an example of High Impact.

Starting at a low intensity is very important and you can increase this over the following weeks as the exercise feels easier. For example, at the start of your program, 20 minutes of walking, jogging, or a combination of walking and jogging may leave you fairly tired and breathless but as the weeks go by, if you want to achieve further increase in fitness, then you may need to increase the pace or introduce jogging up some shallow hills. Remember that when the heart is strong, then it will work better. The heart is a muscle and for this reason it can be made stronger with regular physical activity or aerobic activity. Another thing to remember is that here are two types of exercise, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic activities give the heart and the lungs continuous workout and it uses the arm and leg muscles. Anaerobic activities build and tone muscles but are not as beneficial to the heart and lungs as aerobic activities.

The traditional sports are some of the best forms of aerobic activity. It may be enough to keep you fit and healthy if you get together with a couple of friends and play basketball twice a week. What's important is to get some kind of aerobic activity and make sure that it is something you enjoy so that you can keep with it. Before starting a vigorous aerobic activity program, it would be better for some people to consult their doctor first. Joining a gym for a month is probably the best advice I have for you.
