Getting more healthy fruit and veg into your life

Fruit and vegetables are some of the most healthy things you can eat, and unfortunately we don't tend to have anywhere near enough of them in our diets. It is really a shame because they are one of the easiest things to include in your diet. For a start they actually taste good, well most people would agree fruits do anyway, and they are so easy to prepare for your meals, we just need to get into the habit of buying and using them.

You don't really have fruit as part of a meal though so some people find it harder to fit into their day. Fruit tends to be what you eat as a snack by itself during the day, or maybe as a fruit salad for dessert or on top of something less healthy for dessert. However all that means is you need to start buying some fruits which are easy to carry around so you can eat them on the train to work, or while you walking around the office.

Don't get proper oranges that you are going to have to spend 30 minutes peeling and get really messy with, instead go for apples, peaches, pears, even cherries can make a great snacks that won't get you messy and won't be hard to keep near you ready to eat. If you think those fruits are boring then check down your local supermarket and they usually have a wide range of exotic fruits you can try too like starfruit or lychees.

Vegetables are really easy to eat more of, and it surprises me that people say they struggle to get these into their diet. Obviously you probably can't add any veg into your breakfast, but the other two meals of your day, lunch and dinner, should both have a generous helping of vegetables in them.

They are the perfect way to bulk out a meal, often all you need to do is boil or steam them to cook them, you can store them easily even if they are fresh, or they are just as good if you buy them in a bag frozen and boil them up straight from the freezer, plus they don't cost an arm and a leg either. You know the best bit though? They don't contain many calories but do contain lots of vitamins and minerals, so you can eat as much as you want.

So really if you want to eat more vegetables then make sure you buy more when you go shopping and don't let them rot in the cupboard! Promise yourself you will add two portions of vegetables to every main meal you have.Hopefully that will help to fill you up too, so you eat less of the unhealthy food that is no doubt on your plate (as long as you eat the vegetables first of course!).
