Children get many benefits from all the physical activity that they do to burn off all their energy. As we age, our activity level decreases. Try easing into exercise if this describes you. Start with something simple like choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Parking a little farther away from the store is a good way to get more foot time. After enjoying a heavy evening meal, the best thing to do is go for a walk. Your body will be better able to digest your food this way, too.
One of the most overlooked benefits of fitness exercise is that it can be fun. Physical activity can even be fun for the whole family. Even if you're single, you can still do the same thing. You can plan your group activities to have a fitness component. This way you get to have fun and get in some exercise. Another bonus is you get to socialize and network. It's not necessary for exercise to be like boot camp every time. You can take care of several things while still getting in a good work out.
For those that prefer strength training, that's great. There are tons of benefits to be had from strength training. Using your own body weight and lifting weights can give you the same or at least similar benefits. There are several benefits including, but not limited to, greater muscle strength and definition, stronger tendons and ligaments, decreased body fat, and more muscle mass. It is extremely important to eat healthily and get the proper nutritional support if you engage in this kind of activity.
The type of exercise you do will mostly determine what benefits you'll receive. Just remember, doing something you enjoy raises your chances of sticking with it.
