Rowing Machine Guidelines



One of the best ways to keep yourself fit and healthy, and yet not have to leave home, is by making use of exercise equipment that can be used indoors. Position yourself correctly by placing your heels against the pedals, and then adjusted the foot straps to where they feel secure but comfortable. You will want to have a comfortable grip on the handles, so you need to put yourself in a position where you are not over extending yourself in order to get a firm grip. You can choose whether you want to grip the handles from the top or the bottom, but what is most important is that you are able to relax once you are in the right position.

Naturally you are enthusiastic about your pending rowing machine workout but to avoid fatigue and possible injury you will need to begin slowly. This means starting out with a low level, and then as you become accustomed to the unit and your body adjusts to the workout you can increase this at the right time. There is lots to learn about this unit as a first time user, and there are terms that are used to describe the techniques that are required for a proper workout. These terms describe the various positions that you need to adopt throughout the exercise segment.

The first is the catch position. Here you will make a forward motion, and as you do this your knees with bend and come up to the chest area. Be sure to concentrate on your posture when in this position otherwise you can do yourself harm by putting strain on your back, and you won't benefit from what this position is meant to do.

The next procedure is known as the power stroke. You will be multi tasking here as you need to do three things at once. In unison you push down on the pedals with your feet which will automatically cause your legs to take a straight position. While these two movements are occurring you will need to put your hands back towards your abdomen. Once you have completed these three movements then you have completed the power stroke. To complete the segment of the first maneuver it contains a third movement which entails you to move your body forward. You will need to bend your knees in order to do this comfortably and at the same time straighten your arms forward.

At first these three basic steps while making use of your rowing machine may seem unnatural, and you may tend to be sporadic in your movements. Try to concentrate on completing these maneuvers in a smooth uninterrupted motion.
