Along with that admonition are the usual extras related to totally eliminating good food, snack foods and the like. Well, that is not always the best way to go for a lot of reasons. You can still snack and eat foods that taste good. The world is full of food that is very good tasting, and you can eat what you like and minimize calories. People usually choose things like smoothies instead of real food when they are dieting. Often times those who are dieting will consume a smoothie in the morning for breakfast. If you drink them, then hopefully you are keeping a close eye on what you are putting in them so they do not become heavily calorie laden. Remember you are trying to cut down on the calories, and so that means you need to go for what adds the most calories. We know some people who learned to drink coffee black with nothing in it, and perhaps you can try it if you love coffee. When you are talking about teas, then that is much easier to play around with than trying to sweeten coffee. There are a lot of ways to cut down on the calories, so if your coffee is sacred and hands off - we totally get that and understand how you feel.
We think this may be an obvious point, but even the very best foods in the world in terms of health do contain calories. So many people think that eating a vegan diet, for example, gives them license to eat as much as they want as often as they want. Take a look at vegetables and fruits, and the latter can have a lot of sucrose in them which is sugar. Some healthy foods can be eaten in greater quantities, but there is a limit with everything. Avoid eating too much fruit and too many vegetables and mix things up a bit. You can also get bored with eating too much of one thing, and that can cause you to eat foods that you should not eat.
You can get seriously creative and come up with ways to burn more calories. You do not have to be so hard on your self to make this work.
