Commute to work by cycle

Cycling to work will save polar bears and get you legs looking sexy for the beach, what more could you want for motivation. Office manager jobs and other high stress office based careers do not give much time for keeping active, so cycling to work is a great way to squeeze in some exercise.

The first step is to get the right bike for the job. Your three main choices are between a road bike, a mountain bike and a hybrid. To cover greater distances quicker and easier on roads you should go for a road bike. A mountain bike would suit a route that takes in a short cut through the countryside or through a park. If you want something between the two you can go for a hybrid.

Once you've got the bike you can think about what is best to wear for cycling in. If it is a relatively short ride you could cycle in your work clothes and go straight to your desk. If you have a more challenging commute you may like to have a shower at work before changing your clothes. Many offices will not have showers, so this could be a bit of a luxury.

The best option would be to wear cycling shorts with a padded groin area. This will give you a more comfortable ride and will prevent chaffing from loose shorts. You can also buy a cycling jersey, which has a zip on the front and three pockets on the lower back for keeping a spare tube, tyre levers and an energy bar. Wearing cycling shoes with stiff soles allow you to transfer more energy into the pedals when you cycle. Don't be embarrassed to wear a helmet, these days they have really cool looking ones.

Try it out for a week and see how you like it. You will feel like a million bucks if you get a fit healthy lifestyle going, even if you are only earning peanuts in your job.
