Body building is about more than turning yourself into the next Arnold Schwarzenegger (the 1980s Arnold, not the current, Governor of California Arnold). Common society views body building as little more than a way to grow grotesquely large muscles. The truth is that there is a lot more to body building like strengthening your muscles and then building their tone to create a healthy looking body. It isn't always about "getting ripped." It is far more about health than anything else. If you are interested in starting a body building routine, here are some tips to help you out. Don't forget that the key to body building is becoming healthy first and then getting pretty later.
Find a good gym. Body building is not something that every gym is set up to offer. Look at a few gyms before you decide which one is right for you. You want a gym center that has regular body building clientele.
You also want to find a gym that has good lighting and is very clean. Your gym should have equipment that is well maintained and always in working order. You want your gym to have good feelings and vibes. It is hard to take real advantage of a gym membership if you don't enjoy the time you spend there. This could put a major slow down on your body building efforts.
There are going to be days when your body works well and days when it does not. Be prepared for this. The simple fact is that a varied workout will make sure that you have easy days that will allow your body to rest and to heal from some of the harder days that you take on. Don't let yourself get stressed out if your body is not performing the way you want it to. Let your body rest (it needs it!) and then try again tomorrow. If you get too stressed out you could end up injuring yourself or making the situation worse.
The basic exercises that body builders do include (but are not limited to) squats, leg curls, lunges, leg presses, dumbbell raises, leg extensions, laterals, dips, flyes, ez-bar curls, pull ups, incline crunches, hanging leg raises and the "regular" cardiovascular exercises like swimming, biking and running. While it is important to know how to do these exercises, you need to make sure that you do them with another person. When you do your lifting exercises always ask someone to spot you--this is especially important when you work your way up through the different weight classes. You need to have a spotter work with you on your lifting in case you find that you cannot handle the weight of the lift on your own. Body building is a great way to get your body into amazing shape. Most new body builders report that their main goal is to simply get healthy. It is only later that they decide to focus more on their outward appearance and the actual building of their muscles. The correct approach to body building is incredibly important. Remember: achieving good health is your main goal. You don't need to take risks or play games. Don't let yourself push yourself to go too far before you are ready. You can reach the goals that you have set for yourself. Getting there involves hard work and lots of patience.
